Storytimes for preschool age children feature themed stories, rhymes, and songs. Most storytimes will be followed by a simple activity. All children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Parents and caregivers are the first education providers during the 0-5 early critical years. The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge is a simple  and fun program that promotes reading to  newborns, infants, and toddlers and encourages parent and child bonding through reading. This challenge is a simple, yet fun approach to establishing strong early literacy skills and helps young children gain the confidence necessary to become strong readers.

The concept is simple: read a book, any book to your child, with the goal of reading 1,000 before kindergarten.  Each participant will receive a special passport and may have their passports “stamped” for each 100 books read.  

Pick up your packet when you register at our Children’s Reference Desk.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library Kapolei.

October 1992 marked the first celebration of Filipino-American History Month in the U.S. In 2009, Congress declared October as Filipino-American History Month.*  Celebrate with us as the talented members of House of Gongs present the background of this special month and then treat us to an expert performance Filipino music and dance.

Have a “SPOOKTACULAR” Halloween! Join us for fun Halloween crafts and carnival style games where keiki 12 years old and younger can test their skills and earn candy and prizes on games such as the Fall scavenger hunt, Spin-the-Wheel, and Jack-o-Lantern bean bag toss. This event would be a perfect time to show off your trick-or-treating costumes!
