Pahoa
Public and School Library (Big Island) is scheduled to
close beginning Saturday, May 30 for approximately 2½ months for
health, safety, and accessibility improvements. The book drop
will be closed from Friday, June 5 at 5 p.m. until the library
reopens after renovations are completed. An announcement will be
made when the library is scheduled to reopen.
Requested items for patrons will be sent to Hilo Public Library
(300 Waianuenue Ave.) for pick up unless other accommodations
are made. There will be no summer reading programs at Pahoa
Public & School Library. However, patrons may visit Mountain
View Public & School Library (telephone: 968-2322) or Hilo
Public Library (933-8888) to participate in these programs, and
for other library service needs. For directions to these
libraries, please call the telephone numbers as listed.
Keaau Public and School Library (Big Island) is
scheduled to close beginning Wednesday, June 17, 2009, for
approximately two months for health, safety, and accessibility
improvements, and the installation of a new roof. An
announcement will be made when the library is scheduled to
reopen. While the library is closed, the book drop will also be
closed for about four weeks, pending the installation of the
roof. In addition, there will be no summer reading programs or
passport application service. Patrons are encouraged to visit
the Mountain View Public & School Library (tel: 968-2322) or
Hilo Public Library (933-8888) to participate in the summer
reading programs, and for other library service needs. Requested
items for patrons will be sent to Hilo Public Library for pick
up unless other accommodations are made. Library materials
should be returned to any other public library that is open,
pending the reopening of the book drop.
Manoa Public
Library (Oahu) will close July 2, 2009, to make way for
the construction of a new library. Work is expected to take two
years to complete. While construction is underway, patrons will
be able to check out books from an interim library to be housed
in two portables at Noelani Elementary School. The interim
library will open August 3. Until the interim library is open,
library users can pick up reserved materials at McCully-Moiliili
Public Library. Manoa Public Library, located at 2716 Woodlawn
Dr., was built more than 40 years ago. The new library will
double the area used for library materials and provide twice the
number of parking stalls. The $10.3 million project will also
provide space for a children's room, meeting room and staff work

2009, for approximately two months for health, safety, and
accessibility improvements, and the installation of a new roof.

locked, and there will be no summer reading programs or passport
application service. Requested items for patrons will be sent to
Naalehu Public Library (telephone: 939-2442) for pick up unless
other accommodations are made. Library materials should be
returned to Naalehu Public Library or to any other public
library that is open. Starting June 15, Naalehu Public Library
will offer temporary extended public service hours until Pahala
Public & School Library reopens: Monday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. 5
p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. 6 p.m.; and Friday, noon 5
p.m. Patrons are invited to participate in Naalehu Public
Library's summer reading programs.
